چکیده
Cardiovascular diseases are common in cats. 3 Myocardial disorders are the major cause of heart failure and thromboembolism, with idiopathic hypertrophic cardiomyopathy the most important of the primary myocardial diseases. Extensive myocardial fibrosis leading to a restrictive cardiomyopathy or right ventricular cardiomyopathy is now recognized on a regular basis in mature cats. Conversely, dilated cardiomyopathy is rare today because feline diets are supplemented with taurine. Nonsuppurative myocarditis is identified sporadically in cats; however, the diagnosis is difficult and often based on suspicion (or necropsy). The cardiac manifestations of, hyperthyroidism, hypertension, and anemia are well known in this species, but these conditions must be distinguished from primary cardiomyopathies as management and prognoses differ. Primary acquired valvular disease is very rare in cats. Functional murmurs are common, including those related to ejection of blood into the dilated aorta found in older cats. Herein is a summary of clinical aspects of the most important of the feline myocardial diseases.

متن کاملIs treatment of feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy based in science or faith? A survey of cardiologists and a literature search.
PRACTICAL RELEVANCE Feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common cardiac disease of cats. Treatment of HCM is usually directed at controlling signs of congestive heart failure (CHF), preventing occurrence or recurrence of systemic thromboembolism or delaying/preventing/reversing progression of subclinical disease. STUDY OBJECTIVE AND DESIGN Despite the laudable goals of therapy...
متن کاملPrevalence of the MYBPC3-A31P mutation in a large European feline population and association with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in the Maine Coon breed.
OBJECTIVES The MYBPC3-A31P mutation has been identified in the USA in a colony of Maine Coon cats with an autosomal dominant hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). The objectives of this prospective study were: 1) to evaluate the prevalence of this mutation in a large feline population from Europe; 2) to compare these data with the prevalence of HCM in the Maine Coon breed. ANIMALS AND METHODS 1)...
متن کاملMolecular and clinical study on prevalence of feline herpesvirus type 1 and calicivirus in correlation with feline leukemia and immunodeficiency viruses
Upper respiratory tract diseases (URTD) are common clinical problem in cats worldwide. Feline calicivirus (FCV) and feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1) are the main primary pathogens. Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) are also among the most common infectious diseases of cats which suppress the immunity. Oropharyngeal and conjunctival swabs and blood samples wer...
متن کاملFeline Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy: A Spontaneous Large Animal Model of Human HCM
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a common disease in pet cats, affecting 10-15% of the pet cat population. The similarity to human HCM, the rapid progression of disease, and the defined and readily determined endpoints of feline HCM make it an excellent natural model that is genotypically and phenotypically similar to human HCM. The Maine Coon and Ragdoll cats are particularly valuable mode...
